Clients reposted on forums and file-sharing sites are a known way to hand out keyloggers. We publish mirrors here and nowhere else, and the staff will never send you a client over Discord. If a link here is dead, say so in the bug channel rather than looking for a copy elsewhere.

Hardware

System requirements

The client is a Direct3D 9 application from 2007. It runs on almost anything; the recommended column is what keeps a 200-player siege smooth.

Setup

Installing, step by step

Seven steps from a fresh download to standing in Moradon. Do them in order — most first-launch problems come from skipping the folder and antivirus steps.

  1. Download the launcher

Take the launcher if you are installing from scratch. Already have a VintageKo folder from an earlier build? The patch archive is enough.

  2. Extract outside Program Files

Unpack to a plain path such as C:\Games\VintageKo. Windows blocks writes inside Program Files, which is the single most common reason a patch stops at 0%.

  3. Exclude the folder from your antivirus

The patcher rewrites the game executable on every update, which most scanners read as tampering. Add the install folder as an exclusion before the first run.

  4. Run the launcher as administrator

Right-click Launcher.exe, open Properties, then Compatibility, and tick "Run this program as an administrator". The patcher needs write access to its own folder.

  5. Let it finish patching

The launcher compares your version against the server and downloads what is missing. Starting the game mid-patch is what produces the "wrong client version" disconnect.

  6. Create your account

Register on the site, not in the client. The account name and password you pick there are the ones you type at the login screen.

  7. Pick a nation and spawn

Choose Karus or El Morad, create a character, and you land in Moradon. Nation is per account, so plan it with the clan you intend to play with.

Troubleshooting

First launch went wrong

The six failures we answer most often, with the fix that actually works.

  • Stuck on "Connecting to server" or kicked back to the login screen

Your client version is behind. Close the game, run the launcher, and wait for it to report that it is up to date before pressing Start.

  • Patch stops at 0% or fails to replace a file

The folder is write-protected or the antivirus is holding the file. Move the install out of Program Files, add an exclusion, and run the launcher as administrator.

  • d3dx9_43.dll or a similar DLL is missing

Install the DirectX 9.0c end-user runtime from Microsoft. Windows 10 and 11 ship DirectX 12 but not the D3D9 helper libraries the client links against.

  • Black screen after character selection

Open the executable's Properties, then Compatibility, tick "Disable fullscreen optimizations", and set compatibility mode to Windows 8. Then delete option.ini so the client rebuilds its video settings.

  • Crash when entering Moradon for the first time

A partial patch left a stale table file behind. Delete the client's Data folder and run the launcher again — it will fetch a clean copy.

  • Login says the account does not exist

Accounts are created on this site, and the name is case-sensitive at the login screen. Register first, then log in with exactly what you typed on the form.

Still not launching?

Open a ticket with your Windows version, your graphics card and the exact error text, or ask in the Discord bug channel first to see whether it is already known. A report we can reproduce gets fixed in the next patch.

Mirrors are showing the built-in defaults because no download settings are published yet. The client version the launcher installs is always the one the server is running.
